How Philips SMART Pads Know When a Rescue Has Started

The M5071A cartridge senses when its pads have been pulled from the casing and applied to a patient's chest, so the HeartStart OnSite can match its coaching to where the rescuer actually is. The cartridge fits the OnSite, Home, and HS1 units (M5066A, M5068A) and is intended for patients 8 years or older, or over 55 lbs. Shelf life is 2 years if no rescue occurs in that window, and every rescue consumes the cartridge — one use, one replacement. A spare cartridge on the wall is what keeps the device usable after its first save.

Ordering was easy. Shipped quickly. Got what I ordered. The reason for the loss of two stars: These things have a useful life of two years, which is understandable, given the nature of the product, and the necessity of adhesives (for the skin) to not be dried out. I'm OK with that. The problem is that the two adult pad replacements I ordered on 6/20/24 have an expiration date of 12/19/25. I lost 25% of the useful life of the product...before I even received it.
