How the Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 Reduces AED Program Maintenance

The Powerheart G5 is built to flag its own problems before an inspection does. Its Rescue Ready indicator confirms that battery, pads, and internal circuitry have all passed self-test, and IntelliSense pads run their own test and alert 30 days ahead of expiration, which is enough lead time to order replacements before the unit falls out of compliance. The battery carries a 4-year IntelliSense guarantee, and the device an 1-year Encore Series warranty. On a rescue, STAR Biphasic variable escalating energy raises the dose across successive shocks, and the unit delivers a fast shock in 10 seconds or less. Pediatric pads are auto-detected, so nobody has to find a key or a switch under pressure. Voice and text prompts run in English or Spanish, switchable on the device. It carries an IP55 rating, meets military standards for shock, vibration, and drop, and weighs about 5.7 lbs. Event data pulls off by USB thumb drive. Optional Intellisense CPR adds real-time depth, rate, and recoil feedback.

The reason for the loss of two stars: These things have a useful life of two years, which is understandable, given the nature of the product, and the necessity of adhesives (for the skin) to not be dried out. I'm OK with that. The problem is that the two adult pad replacements I ordered on 6/20/24 have an expiration date of 12/19/25. I lost 25% of the useful life of the product...before I even received it.
