 Summary of Requirements

Physician​No Current Legislation
AED-Check.jpgCPR/AED TrainingAll persons who use an automated external defibrillator are encouraged
to obtain appropriate training, to include completion of a course
in cardiopulmonary resuscitation or successful completion of a basic
first aid course that includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation training,
and demonstrated proficiency in the use of an automated external
defibrillator.
AED-Check.jpgEMS NotificationAny person or entity in possession of an automated external
defibrillator is encouraged to notify register with the local emergency
medical services medical director of the existence and location of the
automated external defibrillator.
AED-Check.jpgMaintenance ProgramMust properly maintain and test the AED on a regularly scheduled basis.
 AED-Check.jpgNotification of UseAny person who uses an automated external defibrillator shall activate
the emergency medical services system as soon as possible upon use of
the automated external defibrillator.

FL Stat § 401.29152011It is the intent of the Legislature that an AED may be used by any person for the purpose of saving the life of another person in cardiac arrest. In order to achieve that goal, the Legislature intends to encourage training in lifesaving first aid and set standards for and encourage the use of AEDs.
FL Admin Code § 64J-1.0232008Outlines instructions to ensure the public health and safety for a person that acquires an AED.
FL Admin Code § 64B5-17.015 2004As part of the minimum standard of care, every dental office location shall be required to have an AED by February 28, 2006. Any dentist practicing after February 28, 2006, without an AED on site shall be considered to be practicing below the minimum standard of care.
