Philips HeartStart FR2 Infant/Child Pads

Automated external defibrillator (AED) pads are a necessary component of an AED unit, without them, the AED is useless. Philips HeartStart FR2+ Infant/Child Pads are used to treat children less than 8 years of age or weighing less than 55 pounds. Infant/child pads are necessary when treating sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in children because they reduce the energy delivered to the patient. Having extra Philips HeartStart FR2+ Infant/Child AED pads on hand is important because, as in the case of AED batteries, AED pads have a shelf life and will eventually expire. For any business or school where children are present, it is important to include children in the emergency medical plans within the AED program. Children have a lower incidence of SCA than adults do, however, children, especially athletic children, do suffer sudden cardiac arrest and an AED is the only proven treatment in stopping sudden cardiac arrest. Without defibrillation within the first 3 – 5 minutes of the attack, brain damage can occur; if treatment is not started after 5 minutes, death is usually the result. Do not leave the children in your care without the chance of surviving an SCA; make sure you have extra AED pads on hand.
